Ethics Training Best Practices: Cisco Systems
At the end of 2008, Cisco Systems revealed their unique approach to ethics training for their workforce. Many companies look for ways to make training enjoyable for employees- Cisco Systems has been able to prove that companies can effectively incorporate humor into an ethics training program and still get the message across. In ”Cisco Transmits Ethics To A ‘Wired’ Workforce,” by Andrew Singer, Cisco’s Ethics Program Manager Jeremy Wilson stated “all too often training officers are inhibited by the thought that “legal would not like that.” Compliance-related topics are inherently dry, and companies shouldn’t shy away from seeking new ways to connect with your code and your employees.”
Connecting with a “Connected” Bunch
One of the key factors allowing Cisco to carry out a more creative approach to their ethics training is that all of their employees work on computers and are connected to the Internet. The article “Cisco Transmits Ethics To A ‘Wired’ Workforce,” by Andrew Singer also featured comments from Christine Style, Cisco’s Ethics Marketing Manager, who mentioned “Cisco’s ethics office has at any time between two and five individuals working in it—yet it must get the message out to more than 50,000 employees. We are utilizing technology to do this, including communication instruments like blogs and discussion forums so we are not answering the same question 50 times.”
Even if an entire organization isn’t connected to computers and Internet, there may be certain groups within the organization that are. In order to effectively reach out to these groups and make training both accommodating and innovative, these types of tools could be implemented into their training program.
Cisco’s “Ethics Idol”
Another way to connect with employees is to engage them with something that they are familiar with. At Cisco, they created animated videos as part of a series called “Ethics Idol”, a parody of the tv show ”American Idol”, in order to spark employee interest in the training process. Jeremy Wilson explained the premise of “Ethics Idol” in this article:
“Featured on Cisco’s Intranet, it presented a series of animated ethics scenarios that are evaluated by judges. Cartoon characters sing about different ethics situations—sales practices, procurement issues, and other common dilemmas. Employees also vote, making their judgment calls on each ethical situation. The ‘contests’ have also been run by DVD in a live setting. Cisco managers use ‘Idol’ handbooks that explain how to run the contest. Ethics Idol helped raise awareness to Cisco’s employees that each ethical dilemma is not always cut and dried, and if they should have any questions to refer to the Cisco Code of Business Conduct for guidance.”
In another article by Jim Duffy on NetworkWorld regarding Cisco’s innovate ethics training program, Jeremy Wilson was quoted saying “We even had several employees volunteer to sing or perform in future Ethics Idol modules. For the first time in Cisco’s history, employees are excited for the next round of ethics training.”
We have discussed the importance of ethics and compliance training in our article “How to Maximize Your Compliance Training ROI“. The example at Cisco Systems ties in nicely with the article because it shows that training can be something employees look forward to. During training, you are asking employees for their attention and time away from their work tasks, make the most of the time and present the content in the form of something your employees can relate to. Cisco Systems has done a great job tapping into their employees in order to get a strong return on investment in their training programs.

why blogging is important

Blogging – How Important is it to Update Your Blog on a Regular Basis?
So how often should you update your blog?
Updating your blog automatically every hour or so with junk articles using an automatic blog posting system is not recommended but updating your blog every day or so with well written or original content is highly desirable. Having several blogs might seem like a good idea but one has to have the time or resources available to update them regularly.
Technically from a marketing and social aspect it might seem like a good idea to update or add new content to your blog to get a constant flow of traffic to your blog. However one must remember that the web spiders might send traffic to your website from content that pleases them and ranks your blog higher but people read your blog. Web spiders might like junk articles because they are keyword rich and search engine optimized but people spend money not web spiders. Ultimately you have to please your readers to make money from a business blog.
Frequently updating your blog will also allow you to get your blog pings accepted more often and have your blog listed on the front of blog directories. So you could invest in one of the many automatic blog posters that spin the articles you load up hundreds at a time to make them appear unique to the search engine spiders. My experience though has been that the readability of these articles to the potential buyer is inferior to human written unique articles and in some cases they are difficult to read and understand. My question is therefore how can you become an expert in your niche market with these junk articles?
Updating your blog regularly is also important if you use social marketing sites to spread the word about your blog in order to get traffic to your website. Social marketing however is all about human connections so your blog needs to be readable and easy to understand when these people take interest in your social network posts and visit your blog.
Having a blog is not just about making money online but is also about connecting with other blog owners who share common interests. Updating your blog will give them an incentive to visit your blog regularly, post comments and refer their readers to your blog. If you do the same to their blogs it ultimately creates lots of back links for everyone concerned and helps to rank your blog and website higher in the search engine results.

Therefore it is important to update your blog regularly with interesting and unique content that is well written and readable by humans as well as the search engine spiders to build both marketing and social marketing relationships that encourage people to return and visit your blog. Are all of Bush’s supporters somehow stuck here on Y/A?
With Bush’s favorability rating so low, and his unfavorability rating so high, and the faults and flaws of his administration obvious to anyone who is even remotely paying attention, how can there possibly be so many Bush supporters here on Y/A? Are ALL of you here? Can I in fact find every single Bush supporter in the USA here on Y/A, blogging away, trying to feel better about your dwindling numbers?
Not so many – just the loud, stupid, directionless ones who would rather go down with Dubbya’s ship than in McShames.
I guess GOP lemmings are picky about which cliff they run off of!

Freelance Blogging : Blogging Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
starting a blogging business

How do I create a free website?
I am starting my own business and would like to have a website to direct traffic and showcase biz. Can someone please give me legitimate advice on web hosting and design that is either free or very cheap. I may even need a checkout section also where people can purchase products. I am doing wedding/event planning, so need lots of space for pictures and blogging. Thanks so much!
Hi Michelle,
For wedding / event planning I do not think you want a checkout section. I think your main objective is to have someone actually contact you personally to discuss their wants, needs and desires.
Your website should actually be full of photos and customer testimonials of events that you have already assisted with. Take some nice photos of local event venues like wineries, halls, parks etc.
You also want to make connections with caterers, musicians, wedding gown shops, rental companies etc. Once you have your website developed you can charge these service providers for advertising or arrange for some form of discount or rebate for any jobs you hire them for.
My best advice to you is that you do not want free or website design and hosting. Remember this is your business image that will be reflected here. You do not need to spend a ton of money either.
You are entering into a very lucrative niche and I think you may do quite well for yourself…. If you make certain to present a professional image.
If you go the http://www.elance.com or http://www.guru.com you can find very reasonably priced programmers that can create an amazing site for you at a very reasonable price. You can review the programmer’s portfolio and the work that they have done and get a good idea of prices … all without spending a nickle.
When you are ready to drive local traffic I would strongly suggest Craigslist and Backpage. I work with two event planners that are getting a ton of local inquiries there. Once you get going you will be able to grow simply on your referrals.
Good luck to you and I would love to hear how everything goes for you.
Cheers.

why people blogging

Business Blogging – Generating Money by Writing a Blog Online Requires Development of Realistic Plan
To blog or not to blog? That is the question. Lately, blogs (short for Web logs, a type of Web journal) are the big buzz among marketing pros for the help www.bloggers-guide-to-profit.com. While top bloggers can make big-time money from ad revenues, the odds of striking it rich by creating an ultra-popular blog are probably on par with winning the lottery. But, don’t rule out creating a blog for your business just yet.
Blogs can be a great way to build brand loyalty and gain new customers. Even if you never make a cent from blog ad revenues — and you probably won’t — gaining even one new client would likely pay for the small investment you make in this low-cost marketing technology.
What should your blog be about? Ideally, something strongly relating to your business — this positions you as an expert in your field. A sporting goods store could blog about great hikes, local camp sites and rock climbing classes. An ad agency could discuss the latest developments in their local ad climate and the newest advertising strategies.
If you don’t have the time or skill set to write a blog — don’t worry. Freelance writers can easily be brought in to write a blog entry on a weekly, or even daily, basis. You could even hire several different writers to blog about a different subject each week. Or, have your writer ghostwrite a weekly column for your company CEO or president.
With just a little time and effort each week, a blog can be a great way to build and nurture your customer base and grow your business.
Individuals that dream of blogging for profit can do so with a minimal understanding of blogging software and the willingness to put in the time and hard work necessary. Yet, only a small percentage of individuals actually get the profits they expected from their blog. So why is that?
There are fundamentally two reasons people don’t succeed who attempt to make money through their blogs. Often, bloggers are unrealistic of how quickly their blog readership will grow and how much money they will make. When these heightened expectations are not met, often they are discouraged and just stop blogging for the help www.feed-reader-links.com. The other trap that many bloggers fall into is that they don’t plan. Generating money by writing a blog online requires development of a realistic plan and to stick to it.
In order to make money with blogging, it is critical that you have a lot of readers, ie. traffic. The more traffic you have, the more advertisers will pay to advertise on your blog. However, obtaining the regular visitors needed in order to make a profit isn’t a walk in the park. A good idea or attractive writing style is no longer enough to grab readers’ attention. You have to market your blog to generate traffic to it.
There are many ways to market your blog. One is by writing articles such as this one and putting the link to your blog in the resource or author box. Others are by adding comments to other peoples’ blogs or in related forums, always adding a link back to your own blog. Then there’s social media sites like Twitter, Squidoo, Hub pages, etc. Building quality content on these websites and linking to your blog can all generate traffic.
The problem is that some bloggers focus too much on writing and neglect advertising their blog. You have to market your blog for traffic to know where to find it. Readers of blogs will regularly return to your blog if you regularly update it with new content that has value. Regular updates allow blog search engines and directories to keep your internet rating high. Of course, regular blog posts won’t matter if no one is reading. That’s why it is so critical to spend the time to draw visitors to your blog website. Even if it means not posting quite as often so you can spend some of your time marketing, as long as you’re providing value in the posts you make, the readers will return.

earning through blogging

It’s Easy To Earn Money Blogging Online
If you don’t know it yet, let me share the good news. You can earn money blogging online and guess what? It’s tons of fun. Many people still don’t understand the amazing opportunities that blogging can create. Often it is seen as simply an online journal that teens or young mothers share with their friends. However, it’s so much more than that. Blogging is a concrete way to either make an extra income or even to earn a full time living. You don’t even have to be super great writer. If you could write term papers in high school, you can earn money blogging online. Only this time a teacher isn’t picking the topic, you are.
A blog is a website on a specific topic. It’s extremely easy to install a blog, just a couple of clicks and it’s ready to use. Really! You don’t have to be a technical guru to do this. And you can host your own blog or use online free resources. There are so many options available to bloggers.
Did you know that blogs are becoming as popular as watching television? You can add videos to your blogs with just a few clicks making them extremely dynamic. Many more people will book mark a blog and return to read it again than any other kind of website. And the best part is that search engines love blogs so getting listed in the top search results is easier.
If you want to try to earn money blogging online consider these tips:
Look for blog topics that have a dedicated audience. Things that people are passionate about or need answers to desperately.
You also want to be able to combine your blog content with affiliate products so you can earn money. Consider topics that people will actually spend money on. Things like health issues, pet care, weight loss, etc. However you will want to narrow the focus. For instance “weight loss” is very competitive, but you could select a more focused topic like “fat free dieting”.
You will want to learn to look for keyword phrases that people use to find information in the search engines. Then use them in your blog content. This is how the search engines will rank you. So you don’t want to use keyword phrases that are too competitive such as weight loss. Instead narrow your keyword to a less competitive one such as “low carb diet.”
The content of your blog will be important, so keep it interesting. Provide really useful information that will keep visitors on your site. The longer a visitor stays the better chance you have that they will click on an ad that will earn money for you.

I’m asking this question because I’m spending some time abroad and I want to choose a technologically advanced region to continue my career in interactive advertising.
