2009 Celebrity Review: Russian Women, Ukrainian Women Make Entertainment News
You may not know it, but hot Russian and Ukrainian women frequently appeared in tabloid magazines and celebrity gossip blogs this past year. From engagements to weddings, PETA campaigns and more, these lovely ladies made headlines. Here’s a quick recap.
Bianna Golodryga, Peter Orszag Announce Engagement
ABC news correspondent Bianna Golodryga announced her engagment to Office of Management and Budget Director Peter Orszag on Good Morning America in late December. Golodryga is of Russian descent and speaks Russian fluently. The pair met at a White House Correspondent’s Dinner and were engaged in New York City.
Ukrainian Model Named 55th Anniversary Playmate
Ukrainian model Dasha Astafieva (Miss January 2009, 55th Anniversary Playmate) is rumored to have caused quite a stir at the Playboy mansion last year. Hugh’s girlfriends at the time, The Girls Next Door’s Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt, and Kendra Wilkinson were less than thrilled at the attention Hugh lavished upon Dasha. Some even speculate that the Ukrainian beauty was the reason for the foursome’s eventual breakup.
Milla Jovovich Marries Paul W.S. Anderson
On August 22nd, Ukrainian born actress Milla Jovovich married director and long-time boyfriend Paul W.S. Anderson at the couple’s Beverly Hills home. The two currently have one child, a daughter, though Milla has indicated that she wants many more. The pair met at the filming of Resident Evil, a movie Paul directed.
Karina Smirnoff Poses Nude for PETA
Ukrainian born dancer Karina Smirnoff appeared in a racy PETA ad decrying the use of fur for fashion. The successful dancer and star of Dancing With the Stars admitted to wearing fur in the past, but reported changing her mind after learning about the heartbreaking cruelty inflicted upon foxes, minks, raccoons, chinchillas, rabbits, and other animals.
Oksana Grigorieva Has Baby Girl
Mel Gibson and Russian singer/pianist Oksana Grigorieva welcomed their first child on October 30th. The child, a daughter named Lucia, is Oksana’s first and Mel’s eighth (a birth that lead to a plethora of Octodad jokes). The couple is currently engaged, but there are no definite wedding plans at this time.
Irina Shabayeva Wins Project Runway
Irina Shabayeva, a former resident of the republic of Georgia, won the sixth season of Project Runway this November. Irina currently lives in New York City where she attended Parsons the New School for Design.
Mickey Rourke and Elena Kuletskaya Get Engaged (Or Do They?)
Engaged or not engaged? Earlier this month, celebrity gossip bloggers begin posting reports of Mickey Rourke’s engagement to Russian model Elena Kuletskaya. The two were said to be planning an April wedding in Moscow. However, the actor denied such claims and has named Ana Makarenko as his girlfriend, not Elena. Interesting.
Will Russian and Ukrainian women (or women with roots in those countries) continue to make headlines in 2010? Let’s hope so!

Okay still in 1st trimester, I’m thinking of Video Blogging my pregnancy on youtube. I mean to show what happens during pregnancy talk about the changes. Plus, my baby is mixed half Irish-American and half Black-American and I just thought it would be interesting. Plus I thought I could help young girls see the reality lf pregnancy (I’m in my 30’s) with so many teenagers getting pregnant on purpose not really getting all that goes into being pregnant and being a mom. Was this election all about race?
I can’t help but ask this question, because alot of people are only focued on the fact that a black man won the presidency. I voted for Obama because I truley believe that our economic and social society will change for the better under his plan. But everyone I talk to, especially men and women of color are only focusing on the fact that he’s the first black man elected president in the history of the U.S. Granted this is the most historical, memorable and most accomplishing thing that has happened to the U.S., but I’m afraid that many people didn’t look at the whole picture. Was the color blinding you from your decision? (This is just a question to strike up blogging conversation, please be kind with your comments, thanks!)

There were numerous people who voted to Obama due to his stand on issues, however the majority voted for him for all the wrong issues.
Many black people voted for him only because of his color, and in fact, many white people did the same, but for another reason – To prove USA isn’t racist anymore by picking a black president.
Also, many young voters chose Obama as their president since he has a lot of Charisma and is better looking than his opponent. Numerous unnecessary negative comments made about McCain’s scars by Obama’s supporters show that even further.
You can also see the difference between McCain’s supporters and Obama’s supporters on Yahoo. If you scroll to the questions asked the past few days, especially yesterday, while most McCain supporters gave valid reasons to vote for McCain, most of Obama’s supporters could only yell “OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA” as their main reason for electing him.
Unfortunately, in this election, it’s not “Obama” who won, but the “first Afro-American president”.

Using Guest Bloggers
Owners of a successful blog that has a large following may sometimes have the need to use guest bloggers. An example of when this practice may be a good idea is when the owner of a popular blog will be unavailable to post new blog entries for an extended period of time. In this case the lack of blog updates may cause the blog to lose traffic so it would be prudent for the blog owner to make arrangements for a guest blogger or a series of guest bloggers to post new items during his absence. The blogger may also wish to announce the intention to use guest bloggers during this period of time to ensure loyal blog visitors are aware of the situation and that it is only temporary. This article will discuss aspects of using guest bloggers such as advertising for guest bloggers, selecting guest bloggers and compensating guest bloggers.
Advertising for Guest Bloggers
There are a number of locations where a blog owner can advertise for guest bloggers. Job boards specifically for bloggers or freelance writers are an excellent option for finding guest bloggers. Job boards for bloggers are frequently visited by experienced bloggers who are looking for new opportunities to blog for compensation. These bloggers may have specific experience with the subject matter of the blog or may simply be adept at creating interesting blogs on a variety of subjects. Job boards for freelance writers are another great option. These writers may not necessarily have experience blogging but they may have other writing experience that is useful. Blog owners should consider posting a detailed messaged specifying the type of work required and duration of the project and asking for clips from the writers which can be used to verify the writer’s skill level.
Blog owners may also wish to advertise for guest bloggers on message boards related to the subject of the blog. Visitors of this blog may not necessarily have writing experience but will likely be quite knowledgeable about the subject of the blog and therefore be capable of producing interesting and insightful blogs.
Selecting Guest Bloggers
Selecting a guest blogger should be done carefully to ensure the guest blogger is reliable and capable of producing articulate, informative and interesting blog posts. Blog owners who advertise for a guest blogger on job boards for bloggers and freelance writers should ask for clips demonstrating the writer’s ability to write blogs which are interesting and informative. When advertising on a message board for a guest blogger, the blog owner might want to consider using the applicant’s previous posts to evaluate his writing ability and knowledge of the subject matter. He should also consider the type of response the applicant’s message board postings typically elicit. This is important because it is a good indication of the type of response the blogs will elicit. Blog owners should also ask the applicants for references and should contact these references to obtain information about the bloggers work ethic and ability to complete projects.
Compensating Guest Bloggers
Blog owners should also carefully consider how they intend to compensate guest bloggers. This can be done in the form of financial compensation or through allowing the guest blogger to post a brief biography with a link to his personal website or blog at the conclusion of the blog post. The latter form of compensation is essentially free advertisement space for the guest blogger. The blog owner may also wish to compensate the guest blogger with a combination of money and free advertising space. Regardless of the method of compensation chosen the blog owner should discuss this with the guest blogger before work commences and should enter a written contract with the guest blogger which explicitly states the terms of the compensation to avoid disputes.
